Dave Gahan together with his long time musical partner Rich Machin (Soulsavers) will release new album «Imposter» on November 12th, 2021 via Columbia Records / Sony Music.
«Imposter» takes listeners on a personal journey through 12 accurately selected and covered songs from various genres and time periods, including James Carr «The Dark End Of The Street» 1967, Mark Lanegan «Strange Religion» 2004, Jeff Buckley «Lilac Wine» 1994, Elmore James «I Held My Baby Last Night» 1952, Neil Young «A Man Needs a Maid» 1972, Cat Power «Metal Heart» 1998, Gene Clark «Where My Love Lies Asleep» 1971, Charlie Chaplin «Smile» 1936, PJ Harvey «The Desperate Kingdom of Love» 2004, Bob Dylan «Not Dark Yet» 1997 and Elvis Presley «Always On My Mind» 1973.
«When I listen to other people’s voices and songs — more importantly the way they sing them and interpret the words — I feel at home. I identify with it. It comforts me more than anything else. There’s not one performer on the record who I haven’t been moved by. I know we made something special, and I hope other people feel that and it takes them on a little kind of trip — especially people who love music and have for years.»
Unlike prior Dave Gahan & Soulsavers’ albums which were transatlantic collaborations where the duo recorded separately and passed parts back and forth, «Imposter» recording was done live by a ten-member band at the Shangri-La recording Studio in Malibu in November 2019. This allowed for not only a more intimate collaboration, but for Dave & Soulsavers to truly absorb the atmosphere and have the space to breathe a different spirit into the tracks.
«This was the first time we were all in one space. It was kind of lucky [timing] as well… Arriving at Shangri-La every day, it was magical. We’d have coffee, go in, and work.»
